Taipei, Sept. 23 (CNA) HTC Corp., the world’s No. 5 smartphone maker, has released its first “QQ phone” equipped with QQ Service solutions to tap the vast Chinese social networking market.

The HTC Chacha is the first model that the Taiwan-based company has produced in collaboration with Tencent Inc., China’s largest and most used Internet service portal, according to Ren Weiguang, president of HTC’s China division.

The Chacha features an 800MHz processor, 512MB of RAM and a 2.6-inch touch display, HTC said in a press statement. The Android smartphone will come with the latest version of HTC Sense software that would make the Chacha smartphone more user-friendly and personalized.

Liu Chengmin, Tencent’s senior executive vice president, said Tencent’s value-added QQ services offer a very interactive community platform and that the HTC Chacha would help Tencent to further integrate and improve its social networking solutions and bring even better services and experiences to its customers.

Noting that the growing fusion of mobile and social networking services has inspired the development of SOLOMO (social, local and mobile) cross-industry cooperation, the HTC statement said the company is collaborating with Tencent to offer Chinese netizens more exciting, localized and personalized mobile-centric social networking services.

Smartphone Internet use has gone mainstream in China. Statistics show that as of June 2011, the number of Internet users in China had reached 485 million, of whom 65.5 percent, or 318 million, were connected to the Internet via smartphones.
