On the occasion of World Tourism Day, celebrated on September 27, Peru’s southern region of Cusco has organized a series of artistic, cultural, academic and social activities, Cusco’s regional government reported Wednesday.
Regional director of Foreign Trade and Tourism Carlos Zuñiga said that since Cusco is considered the country’s main tourist destination, it celebrates this special day with a number of commemorative events.
Even though activities last the entire month, the main day of celebrations will be September 25, which will start with the hoisting of the flag at Cusco’s main square, followed by the grand tourist parade of floats and music bands.
On September 27, tourists who arrive at Alejandro Velasco Astete airport will be welcomed with music, typical dances, and gifts, and will be able to taste traditional food.
Also, among the main activities are the flat-water kayaking festival, the 2011 Miss Tourism contest, a fashion show, among others, as well as guided visits for children, young people, farmers, workers and retired people to the city’s most impiortant attractions.
