Samsung Names Its Dual-Core Mobile CPU Orion

Manila, Philippines — Technology is
amazing. And seems like Samsung has been keeping itself very updated,
first with its Super AMOLED displays, and now a dual-core mobile
processor. What does dual-core really mean? More processing power for
high definition videos and smoother 3D graphics thanks to the dual-core
ARM Cortex A9 1GHz processor.

Engadget – We still consider Samsung’s Hummingbird
application processor to be among the very best for mobile computers,
but this morning Sammy itself is stepping up the charge to make it look
real old real fast. The freshly announced dual-core Orion promises to
whip us all into a frenzy of geek lust with "5 times the 3D graphics
performance over the previous processor generation from Samsung," 1080p
video encoding and decoding at 30fps, embedded GPS, a native triple
display controller, and on-chip HDMI 1.3a interface.

But it’s still early to see how the new Samsung Orion processor will
change the way we use mobile devices. Nonetheless, you’ll have to wait
for a while more to see a commercial unit with the Orion processor,
with a mass production availability slated for the 1st half of 2011
being announced.

Stay Close With Your Friends With HTC Wildfire

Manila, Philippines — HTC Corporation
introduced HTC Wildfire, a new HTC Sense-based Android phone that
integrates the most popular social networks to help bring your friends
closer to you. HTC Wildfire closely follows the success of the
acclaimed HTC Desire and makes the company’s signature HTC Sense
experience accessible to a younger audience.

“Today’s social
networks provide an essential forum for friendship with more than 400
million users – many of whom are young adults – actively sharing their
lives with their friends through Facebook,” said Jack Tong, Vice
President, HTC Asia Pacific. “HTC Wildfire makes the HTC Sense
experience available to young mobile users for the first time. It
brings all your communications into one place, whether it’s through
Facebook, Twitter, text messages, images or email, ensuring that you
are never far away from the conversation and always close to your
friends.”

HTC Wildfire helps you stay connected with those who
are most important to you through HTC Sense, a user experience focused
on putting people at the centre by making phones work in a more simple
and natural way. You won’t miss out on the fun as HTC’s Friend Stream
application seamlessly gathers and displays content from social
networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr into one organized stream
of updates. HTC Wildfire enables you to stay up to date with your
friends’ posts, comments, alerts and photos, wherever you are.

In addition, each contact viewed in HTC Wildfire’s address book
includes a thread of recent communications with that person, including
when you last spoke, recent text messages and emails, and social
network updates. When your friend calls, HTC Caller ID displays their
Facebook profile photo and latest social network update, as well as a
reminder if their birthday is fast approaching.

Thanks to a new
app sharing widget, HTC Wildfire enables you to recommend an
application by email, text message or over social networks. Your
friends will receive a link allowing them to find the application on
the Android Market with a single click and download it to their phone.

Jack
Tong continued, “We understand that people need a better way to
navigate their way through the tens of thousands of applications that
are currently available on the Android Market. In fact, our own
independent research found that consumers are not only hungry for the
latest and most popular applications that their friends are using, they
want an easier way to find and download them. For the first time ever,
you can recommend the newest and coolest apps to a friend or group of
friends with HTC Wildfire. With so many applications to choose from,

songs.

Hitachi Data Systems Joins Ayala ICT Summit

Manila, PhilippinesHitachi
Data Systems was one of the major sponsors for the Ayala Group ICT
Summit 2010 which was held at the Edsa Shangri-La hotel for 2 days on 1
& 2 September 2010. At the Ayala Group ICT Summit, Hitachi Data
Systems presented the technological innovations that will enable the
Philippine enterprises to “transform” their data centers to be able to
adapt to changing business environments that ultimately affect their
long term success.

“An agile data center will enable one to fire up server and storage capacity
in a moment’s notice to handle exponential increase in data,” according
to Hitachi Data Systems Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Hu
Yoshida. Yoshida added that data center transformation is not just
about adding storage and compute capacity but about marrying a complete
economic view of IT and the data center.

“Data is at the core of
the data center, and any effort to transform the data center must
involve the movement, provisioning, access, and protection of data
which is provided by storage systems,” he explained. He added that
through storage economics, Hitachi Data Systems has mapped innovations
and technologies
such as virtualization and dynamic provisioning to their customer’s
service level objectives and key performance indicators, leading them
to an agile data center.

In addition, an agile data center does
not only make one more efficient but also more cost effective.
According to Hitachi Data Systems Vice President and General Manager of
the ASEAN region Ravi Rajendran, the company’s Agile Data Center
Strategy has four key attributes – Virtualization,
Automation, Cloud-Readiness and Sustainability. All these attributes
help organizations drive their costs down by enabling them to purchase
only what they need when they need it.

Yoshida explains that by
making data centers more agile, enterprises can now cut their
operational costs from managing exploding volumes of data by around 65%.

Hitachi
Data Systems Country Manager for Emerging Markets, Terrance Maximus
Tangit explains that it is very important and timely for the company to
share this innovation to the Philippines market so they can also share
their services in aiding Philippines-based enterprises to be more
efficient and competitive in the local and international scene. “This
is why we are very privileged to be working with our local authorized
partners and investing in the market here to share our solutions and
services to the Philippines market,” Tangit added.

Canon Bubble Jet Printer Sales Up, Now #1 In RP

Ms. Jill Santiago, Canon Marketing Philippines
Consumer Systems Products Marketing Manager, expressed her delight
during the event as she reported that the company has topped the
country’s total inkjet market. IDC, a reputable market research and
analysis firm, recently placed Canon at the No. 1 position in the
Philippines. Canon currently holds 33% of the industry’s local market
share for the first half of 2010.

Manila, Philippines
– Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) topped the country’s total
inkjet printer (IJP) market, securing 33% of the industry’s market
share in the Philippines for the first half of 2010 according to IDC
placing Canon at the No. 1 position for said market.

Canon’s
Bubble Jet Printer’s sales in the first half of the year grew 27% from
same period last year. The Bubble Jet Printer market comprises about
25% of CMPI’s total product sales in the country.

“The increase
was due to the consistent quality of Canon PIXMA’s printers with our
proprietary FINE and Chromalife 100+ technology, reliable and
trustworthy service, increased penetration of provincial areas, the
strengthening of the retail market, and our delightful promo offers
which were very much welcomed by customers,” said CMPI consumer systems
products marketing manager Jill Santiago.

Santiago said PIXMA
IJPs have been driving sales, with single function printer PIXMA iP2770
and multifunction printer (MFP) PIXMA MP258 topping the bestsellers
list. The multifunction printers with WIFI have also been gaining
ground in the market let by the Canon PIXMA MX347.

“Technological trends include the shift to multitasking which may result in the growth of the MFP industry,” she said.

“Proprietary
technological advantages that may swing the market to Canon’s side
include the new Intelligent Touch System technology, HD Movie Print,
and free enhanced software bundled with the printers that we will
release this second half,” she added.

Santiago said that CMPI
expects the IJP industry to slow down slightly in the fourth quarter of
2010 due to historical sales trends and consumers’ spending priorities
during the holidays but is confident that the market will swing back
after the holidays.

“But the total market growth for this year versus last year and for 2011 is still seen to grow,” she said.

Earlier
this year, CMPI bagged three GfK No. 1 Awards for having the most
number of unit sales for single-function printers, digital cameras, and
digital single lens reflex cameras.

CMPI president Alan Chng
said in July that the company forecast overall sales breaching the
Php4-billion mark in 2010, 25% higher than last year.
